If you could choose any car company and fire everybody and start from the ground up, which company would it be?

For me...

Kinja'd!!!

it would be Nissan. Carlos Ghosn just needs to go away. Nissan isn't my favourite company, you may have figured out my favourite from my avatar, but I've always had a thing for Japanese cars and I like where Mazda is going, taking for granted the news of the rotary's return [don't break my fanboi heart Mazda]) and Toyota may have turned a corner with the FR-S and Honda, well I've taken to ignoring them. But Nissan, that once proud purveyor of cars such as the 510, the 240Z(ed), the GTR (which it still makes and we'll get to that), the '90s Maxima and the Silvia now is reduced to the GTR, and it's quickly making it's way northward with regards to price. Yes, the Fairlady's still there, but she's gained so much weight that it's a stretch (pun intended to my own chagrin) to call her 'fair' anymore. I'd probably run the company into the ground if I took it over, but the explosion would be glorious.

First order of business: bring back the inline six.

What about you?

I'd have to pick Chevy. They've done awesome with the new Corvette, but nothing else in their lineup really appeals to me right now. There's no vehicle that has price and function in a window of appeal to me. They're trying to be cheap, but they're more expensive than the cheap cars. They're trying to be nice but they're cheaper and not as well built as the nice cars. They're in purgatory as far as their models go.

The Lincoln Motor company. Seriously, this brand needs a complete reboot.

Scion. Nothing of value comes from that brand. Anything worthwhile they have comes from Toyota.

It's not that i want to protect Nissan, but bear in mind a company doesn't equal it's USDM presence. There is a Micra for example, that has a supercharger 1.2 engine, and it's as much old-school econobox fun as it gets. There are still great off-roaders to be had from them, I particularly like the X-Trail, that really stands out from its category, and they do have some no-nonsense small trucks and vans too, which most other companies lack nowadays. And even though the Z and the GT-R aren't what they used to be, they're at least still here - unlike the S2000, the NSX, the Supra, the Celica, the MR-2, the Eclipse, the RX-7, the RX-8 - and that's only the Japanese. So, i don't really think Nissan is doing that badly.

And to answer your question - I think the people at Seat don't really have a clue what they are doing, and they certainly didn't produce anything ever i would miss.

Lincoln!

What I'd do as portfolio manager:

- Build a Mustang-based personal sports coupe in two versions, one "Luxury" with a EcoBoost V6 and another "Sports" version with a Coyote.

- Build a 4-door "flagship." Rear suicide doors are a hard requirement, here but we don't need to go full retro on the design, just some hints.

- STOP BUILDING TRUCKS!

Good point. I said Scion, but Lincoln is the better answer. Scion just needs to die - there is no reason for it to exist at all, so a reboot is not needed. Just sell the cars that are worth keeping as the Toyotas they were meant to be.
Lincoln does have a reason to exist as Fords premium brand, so they are the much better candidate for a complete reboot.

I hope you caught my rant the other day and about land cruiser brand. I would much rather have that than a scion sub brand.

Mitsubishi. Because not even Nissan has lost their way more than Mitsu. First order of business would be to axe everyone in their management and restart development on an Evo XI (not some hybrid crap). I would also axe all of their outgoing models because I dont see any reason to keep them around. Alongside the Evo I would like to see a reborn Eclipse (think evo coupe for the GSX model...powertrain-wise at least). Then finally a halo car to compete with the likes of the GT-R and looming release of the NSX, a 3000GT (or GTO depending on where your from) with all the current supercar goodness twin turbo v6, DCT, torque vectoring thingymajig, meteorologist suspension...the works. and BOOM I just made Mitsubishi awesome again.

Its it okay to pick GM?

Consolidate the brands, stop the badge engineering, and most importantly build cars people actually want.

Given GM wants to make Chevrolet their "global" brand, fine do it, compete with the beige mobiles of Toyota, Honda, etc. Keep the Corvette as the halo car and the Camaro as the "performance" car. Cadillac is on the right track, keep going!

Pick another marque, really pick ONE, and use it to sell "enthusiast cars" much like SRT.

I think Nibbles ate the logo. Anyway, I'm referring to Mitsubishi here. Now that Suzuki is gone, they're next on the chopping block.

Ax it all but the Wrangler and GC, bring back the Commanche and regular Cherokee.

But Mazda's still got the Miata and the RX-9 is coming (hopefully) and I think Toyota might be on the right track and I think I just really don't like Carlos Ghosn. I don't know why. But I used to genuinely like Nissan and they had inline sixes which are cool and you look at their vintage stuff and it's cooler than anyone from that island except maybe Toyota and Mazda and they left it all behind for a corporate face that makes insomniacs fall asleep. They even made the fairlady ugly and the GT-R strange, aesthetically speaking. The horror.

Probably it's just an irrational dislike of Carlos Ghosn and his multinational combined with a look through rose tinted glasses at the companies past

Subaru. Because their whole line-up (apart from the outlier BR-Z) as gotten beiger and bloated over the years. The non-WRX/STi impreza models are so beige that they come with a cvt and and their interior are still not up to par with the competition...

I was gonna say Lincoln, but to be honest, there's another brand that's doing it even more wrong...

...Opel.

It's between Lincoln and Mitsubishi. I'm more inclined to go with Lincoln though. I would rather see them stick around than Mitsubishi. Plus I think Lincoln has more potential by building off of what Ford already has going.

Honda and Lincoln. I'd trade Honda's designers for a cow and have a barbecue.

Honda used to have style, now they're just as dull as Toyota except that Toyota has just enough exciting things in their stable between Lexus and Scion to keep them from being completely beige.

Lincoln needs to do RWD at least on their top models and just stop the whole FWD thing. It's not working.
